Maybe you saw me compete on The History Channel’s “FORGED IN FIRE”  knife making show (Season 4, “The Kampilan”) –  that was the highlight of my blacksmithing life!  I began this journey in 1979, and back then, I was a “farrier,” a blacksmith specializing in shoeing horses.

Though I stopped shoeing horses in 1987, today I continue to hand forge tools and blades.  What you see here is for sale* at my Etsy shop, and if you need something not shown – we can hammer out a deal.

Hunter’s Knife; farrier’s rasp blade with stabilized alder burl scales.

Farrier’s Rasp Tomahawk head.

Fire welded, the head was polished and etched; shown here in development from a drawing to completed tool. Decorative file work was added to the top edge before heat treating.

Blacksmith (or “Viking”) Style knife in 1095 steel.

My knives usually include hand-tooled leather sheaths.

Custom “Framing Slick” for a woodworker in Virginia.

Here you can see the decorative file work on the top edges of the chisel. The body is formed from one piece of

mild steel, with an integral, fire-welded socket and an inlaid bit of O1 tool steel.

The completed slick is 18″ long, 2″ wide, and 7/16″ thick, with an edge

that is shaving-sharp and cambered or crowned about 1/64″.

Chef Knife, hand forged from 5160 steel with custom mosaic scales.

Shown here in the custom presentation case I made from walnut and cherry wood.

Another Chef Knife of hand-forged 5160 steel, accented by burl and acrylic scales and nickel pins.

Paring knives shown with a custom cutting board I make of cherry, purple heart, and maple.

Woodworkers!

Check out these contemporary-style holdfasts, available in pairs or singly.  Forged from 3/4″ round bars, the holding power is tight and will make your work secure!
